چکیده

A DBMS kernel architecture is proposed for improved DB support of engineering applications running on a cluster of workstations. Using such an approach, part of the DBMS codeman applicationspecific layermis allocated close to the corresponding application on a workstation while the kernel code is executed on a central server. Empirical performance results from DB-based engineering applications are reported to justify the chosen DBMS architecture. The paper focuses on design issues of the application layer including server coupling, processing model and application interface. Moreover, a transaction model for long-term database work in a coupled workstationserver environment is investigated in detail. Keywords, Engineering databases, design transactions, workstation-server coupling, object processing, locality.

Emulating Cooperative Transactions upon Standard Database Systems

Complex database applications like CAD/CAM or CASE introduce the need for long duration and/or cooperative transactions. Unfortunately, commercial DBMSs generally support a flat transaction model without cooperation. While many studies have been conducted on the management of more powerful transaction models on top of existing DBMSs (e.g., workflow management), few attention has been paid on tr...

Application of middleware in the three tier client/server database design methodology

With the popularity of personal computers and powerful workstations, today’s users are no longer satisfied with the traditional data processing. They demand eagerly to putting up graphics on existing applications, putting a lot of pressure in system re-engineering. The Client/Server architecture is a less risky and less costly approach in adding a Graphical User Interface for users. The develop...

- 1 - Supporting Parallelism in Engineering Databases by Nested Transactions

Non-standard database systems supporting complex engineering applications are prime candidates for the exploitation of inherent parallelism in order to reduce the response time for user requests. Nested transactions are proposed as a control structure to achieve medium or even small grain parallelism. This paper investigates the design concepts and describes an implementation of the transaction...

A Novel Method for VANET Improvement using Cloud Computing

In this paper, we present a novel algorithm for VANET using cloud computing. We accomplish processing, routing and traffic control in a centralized and parallel way by adding one or more server to the network. Each car or node is considered a Client, in such a manner that routing, traffic control, getting information from client and data processing and storing are performed by one or more serve...
